Singapore's art scene is abuzz with three captivating exhibitions and performances that showcase the country's diverse artistic talent. First up, we have the groundbreaking work of Malaysian Modernist artist Latiff Mohidin, who is venturing into a new medium with his first cast-bronze sculpture, 'Burung 1 (Bird 1)'. This 1.8m-tall masterpiece, crafted in collaboration with Yogya Art Lab, is a testament to the artist's enduring creativity and innovation. The sculpture's intimate fingerprints are evident, reflecting the artist's childlike abstraction of the bird, a nod to his iconic Pago Pago series. Curated by Syed Muhammad Hafiz, the exhibition at Gajah Gallery Singapore invites visitors to explore the stunning breadth of tropical forms through a collection of paper works and the bronze sculpture. Next, New Opera Singapore presents Igor Stravinsky's 'The Rake’s Progress' as a puppet-based opera film, a creative adaptation due to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, the company can finally bring the English-language opera to the stage at the Victoria Theatre, where it will explore the timeless questions of pursuit, seduction, and redemption. Finally, Yeo Whee Jim, diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2023, takes the stage for a one-night-only show featuring poetry and performance. His collection of poems, 'Itinerary', and the charitable fund he launched in 2026, reflect his resilience and determination to make a lasting impact. The show, organised by the Community Foundation of Singapore, will support disadvantaged children and families, including young caregivers, and is a testament to the power of art to inspire and unite.
